Roboro’s 6 tenets

April 24, 2023

In honor of Roboro’s 6th Anniversary, we’d like to introduce you to our 6 Tenets. Our 6 Tenets are the brand pillars and the standards all of our work adheres to. In a world full of greenwashing, it is important to us that our clients and customers know what our sustainability goals are, and that they also know quite specifically how we aim to meet those goals. Our 6 Tenets are how we hold ourselves accountable.

  1. Ninety Percent - All Roboro products are at least 90% upcycled or discarded materials. While we do use deadstock fabrics, we aim to specifically focus on textile waste that would be considered ‘undesirable’ or true waste. One man’s trash is this woman-owned company’s treasure. Our creative juices get flowing when we’re developing around production cuts, damaged inventory, secondhand clothing and other soft goods that would otherwise be sent straight to the landfill.

  2. Material Driven - Our work is motivated by the materials. Whether that means developing a product around a certain fabric, or sourcing the perfect fiber for a client, or finding a new home for a warehouse full of discarded materials. Roboro’s ultimate mission is to End Textile Waste and we’ll continue to innovate and develop until our company is no longer needed. In a perfect world, Roboro wouldn’t have to exist.

  3. One of One - Each of our endeavors are custom, unique, and one of a kind. Every item has different attributes. Each solution is tailored specifically for the client’s needs. Textile waste is a globally devastating problem and we need more innovative design, technology, community engagement and as much one-of-a-kind thinking as we can get!

  4. Designer Built - Upcycling requires highly skilled craftsmen and designers. This sometimes requires training and always requires care. We aim to empower localized industry and give dignified work to the craftspeople all along our supply chain.

  5. Batch Control - All our collections are small batch production runs. By staying small, we never overextend our inventory. We also don’t have the high Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs) of standard manufacturers, allowing us to support brands of all sizes.. Keep it small and make it good.

  6. Infinite Story - We follow a circular design model and are working towards a closed loop system within the fashion industry. Once a product has reached its end of life, we consider reusability, or ways to further upcycle and reinvent. We offer support to other like-minded upcycled designers, recyclers, manufacturers, brands, nonprofits and schools. At our current rate of consumption, there will be a day in the not-so-distant future, where our waste catches up with us. We  run our company, and strive to inspire others to run theirs, as if our time on this planet were infinite. Let’s plan for that story starting now.

These 6 simple tenets are the core of our mission and the North Star of every project we take on. These past 6 years have been a wild ride with ups and downs, successes and hard lessons but we’ve made it this far! Each win is a reminder to keep pushing and every hurdle is a chance to make this idea better, stronger, and more wide reaching. Thank you for being on this journey with us.

xx
